TATTOO AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
- DO NOT EVER pick or scratch your tattoo!
- Remove the bandage after an hour and wash tattoo with antibacterial soap with the palm of your hand.
- Rinse tattoo completely with clean water, then gently blot with a clean paper towel.
- Allow tattoo to dry for approximately 15 minutes.
- After tattoo is dry, gently apply a small amount of tattoo ointment. I recommend Eucerin, Jergins, Lubriderm), or vitamin E oil.
- Do not apply too much ointment/lotion, as this may cause germs to get trapped inside the tattoo and cause possible irritation or infection.
- Repeat process for cleaning tattoo three times daily until you see that the tattoo has healed.
After a couple of days of taking care of your tattoo, you will have a little bit of peeling. This is absolutely normal. The color may seem dull at first but will brighten once healed.
- Once tattoo starts peeling, you may apply a non scented lotion to the tattoo, but again, do not apply too much,
- If you tattoo gets stuck to clothing, sheets, bandages, or any other item, DO NOT PULL the item off quickly. ----Apply a small amount of water and lightly take it off. Pulling the item off fast can cause ink to come out of the tattoo.
- Tattoos typically take 3 – 4 weeks to heal.
- Every tattoo heals differently. Hand and feet tattoos take 2 weeks longer to heal.
- No swimming, hot tubs, or baths for 2 weeks after getting a tattoo. Exposing your tattoo in direct sunlight ( or tanning bed ) is a BIG NO.
Second Skin Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
Second Skin aftercare should be left in place for approximately 3-4 days.
During these 3-4 days, the tattoo will not look the best under the Second Skin due to plasma building up under the skin. The plasma is helping the tattoo heal, so please do not remove it just because you see this. Be patient with the healing process while using Second Skin. It will be worth it.
After 3-4 days of Second Skin, follow these instructions for removal:
1. Peel the edge or corner of the second skin. If this is difficult, you can use medical grade tape on the corners to help lift it off.
2. SLOWLY pull the film off. DO NOT pull it straight up and away from the skin. Instead, pull the film back and across the skin while holding you skin taut.
3. Wash tattoo to its entirety with your hand with unscented soap.
You may experience some redness around the tattoo area where the Second Skin was applied to the un-tattooed skin. You may apply an unscented lotion, such as Lubriderm, or Jergens to the tattoo once the second skin is removed and washed. If you have any questions or concerns, call your tattoo artist.
